To drive through Canada traveling from Michigan to New York?

I'm driving from metro Detroit area to Brooklyn.NY i heard that cutting through Canada can save 1-2 hours instead having to drive down to Ohio then over to NY. but on either map quest,or google maps there's no option to cut through Canada. Is this a faster way? how would i find directions?To drive through Canada traveling from Michigan to New York?
If you choose to route through Canada remember that you and all passengers will need a valid passport and the delays at 2 border crossings could easily wipe out any time savings.
Correct on all accounts from all who have advised. Speaking a Native of Detroit and one who travels via car to both NYC %26amp; upstate New York, I can tell you it's all speculative. Yes the THEORY is true, if you cut through Canada, you could possibly save an hour or two. As stated above keep in mind all passengers must have their passports. Depending on your luck with traffic going through customs, let alone if you get randomly searched, which customs does do, your efforts to cut a mere hour or two can easily add the same in the opposite direction. However if you so choose to try your luck. You can map quest direction easily enough by adding a destination to your trip between point A %26amp; B. Simply enter Windsor Canada to your route %26amp; then organize the order of your Trip. making your departure city point A, Windsor becomes point B, with of course your final destination in Brooklyn Ny becoming point C.

All said as also stated true from someone above. If you were traveling upstate New York rolling the dice with going through customs VIA Canada, would give you a better chance of saving on the travel time. However, the fact that your Traveling to one of the New York burroughs your travel time is basically going to be within screaming distance of each other, minus the hassle %26amp; risk of being delayed at the US/Canadian Borders, if you just stayed on the roadways in the good ol' USA.

If you were going somewhere upstate, like Buffalo or Syracuse, cutting through Canada definitely makes sense. But if you're going to the New York City area, you have to drive down eventually anyway so you might as well stay in the US and avoid having to go through Customs twice.To drive through Canada traveling from Michigan to New York?
With mapquest I got the route from Detroit to Chatham, ON, CA to New York. This takes you through Canada to Buffalo to New York City. It is 2 hours longer then going down to Ohio.
As someone else said, the time you spend going through Customs will wipe out the savings in driving time. Just go down through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
