When (and why) did Google Maps stop telling people to swim places?

If you asked for directions from, say, New York to Paris, Google Maps used to say to drive to Montauk then jump in the Atlantic Ocean and swim 2,000 miles, then get out on the other side and follow whatever route.

I just tried it with several combinations of cities and it kept saying it couldn't calculate directions.

When and why did they get rid of that? It was fun. When (and why) did Google Maps stop telling people to swim places?
because it wasn't porfessional and sounds kind of snarky if you're trying to visit someone dying of a tragic illness in the hospital or something. All these things should be clinical.
