R &S, particularly U.S. citizens: Who is in control of this country?

Per a recent study, 81% of Americans think the U.S. is headed in the "wrong direction."

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gNpUh…

Many in the U.S. believe there is a lack of morals amongst our population. It is blamed on a variety of things, but many Christians blame it on a lack of God in the schools and in the government.

Nonbelievers are often pinpointed as the driving force behind the secularization of the schools and the government.

But, per the CIA Factbook's 2007 estimates, 78.5% of Americans are some type of Christian. And 18.6% of Americans do not identify with a religion (unaffiliated, unspecified, or none). We cannot assume that the whole 18.6% constitutes nonbelievers.

Therefore, per some Christians' logic, less than 18.6% of the population is driving the U. S. into the dumps.

How have such a small portion of the U.S. population managed to overpower the majority of the country? Is there something else going on here?R %26amp;S, particularly U.S. citizens: Who is in control of this country?
The reality is that a small portion of the population has made changes not always popular with the majority. I don't think most of us would argue that point. I don't think, as an example, that most Americans want cancer from polluted air and waterways. But it is happening too often with the support of the government and courts.

But the specific issue you mention is Christians vs. Atheists influence. Personally, I don't think it is either. I think that a way of life in America is passing. Whether for better or worse is the subject of another debate. For many who favor that way of life it is attributed as a moral decline.

As an example, when I was in high school, young ladies were required to wear dresses to school. Now they can wear shorts and other varieties of clothing. For those who believe that a dress standard is important this is an example of moral change. To the person who doesn't want to wear dresses, this is a sign of progress.

As for religion, America has always until modern times lived under Christian Influence. We can argue whether or not the government was formed in this way.

As a nation influenced by Christianity, certain values were present. You can see those values in the government. The Ten Commandments is one of these. As the nation grew in recent years and larger numbers of atheists, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and others have become an influence on American Culture there has been a push to change traditional ways.

As an example, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Ten Commandments can not be displayed in courts. For Christians who have always valued such displays, this is seen as moral decline. For others it is viewed as freedom from Christian oppression.

As for the control issue, a small minority can make major changes. Need I remind this group that the liberals and conservatives are very concerned about the next Supreme Court Justice and control of the Supreme Court? That decision is rarely determined by the public interest.

The elections we suffer through now are financed by major corporations and individuals on BOTH sides. It is these organizations that determine who sits in leadership of our nation. Read John Grisham's latest book as he looks at this influence.

Pastor John
Pharmeceutical companies, Blackwater, oil companies... etc...R %26amp;S, particularly U.S. citizens: Who is in control of this country?
That, sir, is an excellent point. Every poll that has ever been conducted, concerning this country’s religious affiliation, overwhelming demonstrates that most people do identify themselves with some sort of Christian faith, and yet Christians are the ones that harp on the most about our moral degradation. So it would seem to make sense that Christians should lay the blame squarely on their own shoulders. Unfortunately most Christians don't abide by their Jesus’ admonishment to: “ Not look at the speck in your brothers eye, without first removing the beam in your own”.

Of course many Christians will say that the polls only express those who “PROFESS” faith, but not TRUE believers. Still, this does not absolve Christians of their responsibility for the moral decline they claim is occurring with ever increasing rapidity. After all, Christianity has had the power of the government behind it, and has been the largest influence on the global culture, for the past 2000 years. So if Christianity cannot even convert enough “true believers” to change the world for the better it demonstrates that Christianity is ineffectual and a failure. Moreover, it underscores the fact that if there is a God, and Christianity is the religion he approves us, then he is also impotent, because he cannot inspire enough people to TRULY believe and become catalysts for change.

Many right wing Christians relish the fact that Communism failed, and cite it (erroneously I might add) as evidence of what happens when you exclude God from national culture and government. So why don’t they apply that same logic and also condemn their own religion as a failure, because it, being given 1900 more years to work than “Godless” Communism, has not vanquished poverty, eliminated disease, or made people any more moral. Christians refuse to look at themselves in the mirror. Christians refuse to take the proverbial beam out of their own eye. They would much rather put on the blindfold of self-righteousness.R %26amp;S, particularly U.S. citizens: Who is in control of this country?
God, Jesus' father, is king over the whole universe. God says that He decides who He will let the leaders be and what He will allow them to do. God's in control of this country. But He does sit back and let us use our free will for the time being. Sometimes that means letting bad happen: both the people that run the country into the ground, and the people that could do something about it but they choose to sit back and do nothing.

The only thing going on is laziness or cowardice.
People with the most money are in control.
Only a small group of people have all the power: the top jesuits and they work for Satan. God has allowed Satan to be the prince of this world for a while and that's why the world is the way it is right now.

Do you know what the golden rule is? The ones that have the gold make the rules. That's the jesuits. They have all the gold. Read the "protocols of the elders of sion" and you'll understand what I mean.

Why do you think all those gay-rights laws are passing in all governments around the world? It's not because the world accepts homosexuality; not even 10% of the population of the world is homosexual. The top jesuits are homosexuals, though. The Presidents of the countries of the world are puppets in their hands (protocols of the elders of sion).

To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever! Jesus is Lord.
I'd say the neo-cons and the ultra right wingers are. A lot of them only care about morality if it affects their pocketbooks.
America's arcane political structure allows special interests to control the government; the economy is controlled by a self-perpetuating cabal of "professional managers", who run nearly all major corporations.

Religion has very little to do with it, except to the extent that these elites use it to maintain their positions.
History has always been altered and even directed by small groups of committed individuals.. 18 % of the US population is no small group.

Not that I agree with the assessment...
If everybody stop patronizing businesses you'll see who's in control.
The christians.
This is why Obama should be president. I believe he really could change the world for the better.
We the Corporations in order to form a more perfect Theocracy......
currently, it's our theocratic oligarchy.

a change is commin though. only a few more months.

By being so reliant on modern technology are we gradually losing?

the ability to think for ourselves, use common sense and make decisions using our own initiative? http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20101006/tod鈥?/a> last week it was a man driving his van up a mountainside after following GPS directions and it had to be airlifted down. Surely common sense tells you something is not right?

I saw a question on here yesterday "I have had a pain in my stomach for 90 seconds what should I do?" We all get pains occasionally. Can't the younger generation think for themselves anymore without having to resort to Google or Y!A to answer every query?By being so reliant on modern technology are we gradually losing?
The simple fact is most people are thick as pig sh!t , these people keep having more and more babies , intelligent people tend to have two at the most . So when you combine that with the deliberate dumbing down of education , medea and society in general what you get is a species that is no longer evolving but in fact devolving back towards the brute creation .
I'm quite impressed at how they managed to get their car into that water. I'm not so impressed by their inability to get it back out. You'd think they would have gotten bogged down much sooner.

There are a lot of people who just take stuff at face value. They rarely enquire further or examine what they see or hear. Technology just gives them the opportunity to put that on display.

The first carpenter to cut their thumb off with a saw, probably blamed the saw.

I had terrible pain in my stomach yesterday. Thankfully, I can fart.By being so reliant on modern technology are we gradually losing?
I am not so sure. I think modern technology simply makes the stupid look even more stupid, and the lazy even lazier. Those of us with some semblance of nous and awareness would know there was something wrong in the van driver's situation.

Increased expansion of the internet for example, merely means there are now a multitude of outlets for punters to order a great big bowl of stupid - except that on the internet, the whole world can see or read about one's moronic exploits.By being so reliant on modern technology are we gradually losing?
Yes we are. Simple basic skills are being neglected. However in defence of the ignorant or dim, if you have never been taught how to deal with simple, practical problems, you cannot be expected to know how to deal with them.

By asking a supposedly naive or dim sounding question, you are helping those who are not willing to ask. When a sensible answer is received, it helps an unknown number of people, and that is always worthwhile.

I will always answer the simple questions, as there are things I don't know and would like to know, but if I do know something, I will happily pass on that knowledge.
Yes... look at this scary video of how much we rely on technology. I warn you it's frightening and if you are frightened easily or have reactions to such things, don't click on the link. I will admit that I have lost more than one hour of sleep and have woken up in a panic sweat in the middle of the night thinking about this:
Over-dependence on technology is a dangerous thing. Too many people these days rely far too heavily on it, and consequently don't know what to do when things go wrong.

Technology, no matter how advanced, will never be a substitute for skill.
Tbh I'm sure quite a few of these people that drive up mountains and into lakes etc do it for media attention and the possibility of being able to sue the sat nav company.
Yep, common sense is getting quite rare in fact ....
**** THA TERRARIST!
Seems to me we have now lost touch with too many things Doc
thank god I have not lost that ability yet

Are there any known detours or delays on the way to orlando florida from upstate ny?

I'm driving to orlando, Florida, from upstate NY. Using google maps. I would like to know if there are any major detours or delays on the way there I should know about. I would appreciate any info on this trip as I will have my wife and daughter with me and want to make this a very enjoyable experience for us all. I know I will have to deal with a few major cities and I'm down with that. Just want to make sure the directions I have are legitimate mostlyAre there any known detours or delays on the way to orlando florida from upstate ny?
Zoom in to each city along the route until the "Traffic" button appears. Click on it once. Then you can pan down the route and see all known construction, closures, detours, and incidents鈥攆or regions which cooperate with Google.

For example, see the construction signs and lane closures around Portland, Oregon at http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8%26amp;hq=%26amp;hnea鈥?/a> Click on any of the red circles or yellow triangles to find out more information about that incident or closure.

You're scared to drive on a highway?

Hope you never have to travel any significant distance. Can I park my vehicle in front of some stranger's house ?
It is legal to park in front of a house, if there is no sign saying otherwise and you are not blocking or close to any driveway, fire hydrant, stop sign, etc. However, it may not be safe or legal to walk across the highway.

IPod Touch - using Maps offline?

Hi,

I'm planning on using the Google Maps app to drive abroad, yet it doesn't work offline. Is there any way I can save or preserve planned directions and refer to them without wi-fi?

Thanks so much in advance xIPod Touch - using Maps offline?
1. you need to ROUTE your MAP first when you have internet then turn of WiFi, and now you should be able to see only that bit and direction of the MAP saved

2. you can CAPTURE anything on the iPod Touch by pressing the HOME button and ON/OFF button together for 1 second.

when you press these 2 together you will see a white screen for a second and then it will save that moment of the screen to your photo section... you can do this on a MAP then when you don't have internet you can look at it.. or anywhere else even on email or games it works

good luckIPod Touch - using Maps offline?
It will save the last map you loaded I believe, but you wont be able to alter the map or anything while not online.

All I have is the picture of the house i should be moving into?

Okay this is gonna sound sketch, but its very important.

So I just moved back to Virginia Beach, Virginia from Houston, Texas. I am supposed to move in with a friend from my graduating high school class. 2 weeks before I moved back she had to go to the hospital and has been there ever since! She never moved into the house that her ex-husband and her bought because she went to the hospital a week after she bought it. She LOST the number of the person she got the house from. And cannot remember the address to save her life. The address and directions to get there are at her old home, but she hasn't been to her other home in like a month because she has been in the hospital.

All I have is a picture of the house and the general area of the house.

I know it's by the Ocean Front in Virginia Beach somewhere past 37th street. And i have a picture.

What do you think the chances of me finding the address of the house by driving around or just looking on google maps?

Any ideas of how I can get the address?

Thanks! I know it sounds crazy and super sketch, but its legit, HELP!All I have is the picture of the house i should be moving into?
How about calling the insurance company that is holding the homeowners' policy? Or her real estate agent?
That sounds like the oddest story I have ever heard.

Doesn't the husband know where the house is?

You say they *bought* this house, yet they don't know the address?

Sketchy doesn't begin to describe how odd it is.

I guess you could drive around looking for it, but, what if you go to the wrong house? LOLAll I have is the picture of the house i should be moving into?
You should be able to go to the county recorders office and ask them if your friend owns any property in the county - that should give you an address. All I have is the picture of the house i should be moving into?
    You're right: it sounds crazy.
Ask her ex to give you the address--unless she lost his number too.
She has to have some kind of paperwork on the house - ask her for the key to her old house so you can go look (assuming she trusts you with her key if she's moving in with you) for paperwork with the house on it. Also she can call the bank she got the loan through for the house. But Google Earth could work it would just be very very time consuming.

Having trouble with a virus (greenav)?

So there is this fake antivirus software that i accidently got onto my computer. It is called GreenAV. From what i can see it isn't too dangerous, but obviously i would want to get any viruses off of my computer. I notice so far that it gives me little pop ups on near the tool bar at the top of my page warning me that my computer is at risk, temporarily blocks safe webpages for phishing (of which redirect you to the greenav website if u click on a link), and redirect google searches ivolving the keywords antivirus or greenav. When i type either of those keywords i see the true google searches warning me about greenav appear for a split second and then disappear to show promotions for this fake software.

Now i have read other yahoo answers on this exact same subject. So far here is what i have done: Downloaded malwarebytes and superantispyware and scanned for viruses. They did find many infected files and i deleted them. This has decreased the frequency of popups and blocks, but they are still there and google is still redirrected with these keywords. I also tried to manually do this by going into my c drive, turning on hidden folders, and deleting any files that i could find under "program files" or what i could search that said greenav.exe (i also emptied the recycle bin). Still this did not solve the problem. However, i have heard that i should delete any gav.exe folders or mrgrdll.exe, but i couldnt find any. Also i have heard that doing this manually takes a lot more work than what i did (involving blocking the greenav website and many other things). However, i am not really sure how to do this and the instructions on how to do so did not match my computer layout and were hard to follow. I have Windows Vista, and i read a yahoo answers specifically for os and i still found it hard to follow and different from my hardrive layout. Anything else i can try or better manual directions? I would google this myself but unfortunately the keyword greenav redirects it :( This has really got me stumpedHaving trouble with a virus (greenav)?
