Can I swap processors in my laptops?

So, I found a laptop (hp dv4-1120us) in a recycling drop off center... when I took it home, I was surprised to see it in perfect condition. I wiped the hard drive and it's running like brand new. The only problem is that the hardware is twice as good as my original laptop (emachines e627).

The thing is, I'd rather keep my old laptop and sell/scrap this new one. For a couple reasons... one, my old laptop has Windows 7 on it... which I am quite fond of. This new one has Vista and although I can work with it.. it's not 7 ;)

But, I'd like to know where I can find information on how to swap the processors and other hardcore (graphics cards and whatnot). These are my first laptops and I can tell it's harder to work on than my old desktop. Plus, I've never tried swapping hardware like a processor or anything (except swapping ram cards).

So, where do I find information on how to do this, and what is compatible with my machines? Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing so almost anything should lead me in the right direction (google hasn't helped too much..)

Also, don't tell me to take it to a shop.. I don't want to pay anything to do this (unless I need to buy parts). I'd like to do it on my own.Can I swap processors in my laptops?
Instead of moving all that hardware from the new computer to the old one, can't you just move the hard disk from the old computer to the new one?

Either way, Windows 7 may or may not work, depending on how it reacts to having completely different hardware.
you cant swap parts.very few laptops allow you to do that, and emachines is a basic laptop. i wish i was as lucky as you, i prefer vista to windows 7, i hate 7.Can I swap processors in my laptops?
You can't swap components in a laptop. Laptops fit together like a puzzle- you have to leave just the right amount of room in them so that it gets enough circulation to keep it cool. Because manufacturers try to keep them small, they're very precise in the arrangement. Your old computer, which uses integrated graphics and a low-end processor, wasn't designed to deal with the heat put off by the dv4's components. If you can get them to fit inside the old case at all, it would likely burn up the first time you tried playing a game on it.Can I swap processors in my laptops?
You can't move much.

If the HP has 4GB of RAM installed, that can definitely be moved to the Gateway (which can take up to 2x 2GB of DDR2). The Gateway memory may or may not work in the HP, though - as it's slower memry than the HP really wants.

The processors are definitely not swappable - one's AMD, the other Intel.

Graphic cards (if either system actually had one - they're both integrated) aren't swappable either. Video cards are soldered onto the system board in all but the highest end gaming laptops.

HP has a service manual listed for disassembling or repairing their laptops. It's still not a quick job even for a professional as there are ridiculous numbers of tiny screws and connectors to be dealt with. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01鈥?/a>
