What is the best way to get in to and out of New York City on a Friday night?

So I live in a small town in north New Jersey (Woodcliff Lake) and theres a band playing in Brooklyn I want to see. Normally this would be no problem, have a friend with a car, drive in, drive out. But by some twist of fate they're all busy or hate the band or wrapped their Camry's around telephone poles. So here's the question: If I want to be getting off the Myrtle Ave. stop of the JMZ line in brooklyn at 9, what do I need to do?

After the show, how the hell do I get back home if it lets out at... one-ish?

Finally, if there's any really helpful person out there, is there some kind of "plan my transit for me" website? Google Maps is great for directions and all but that needs me a car. What is the best way to get in to and out of New York City on a Friday night?
Try the NYC transit authority website. This covers all METRO areas, including NJ- I have used it with success in the past-

By the way, my prom was at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton!!! Right near Tice Farms!!!!
I say try NJ Transit they have an Itinerary planner. The transit system here runs 24/7 so your biggest problem is going to be on the Jersey side since that stuff shuts down.

FYI you can also take the L train to that same Myrtle Avenue stop, which would be better for you because, you can catch the Path train on 14th street without ever changing trains. What is the best way to get in to and out of New York City on a Friday night?
Why don't u stay at a friend's house (if u have any) living in NYC. Trains are great, but dangerous at night time. But then again, why don't you rent a car for the evening. It'll be really cheap I guess, but then it's also a waste of money b/c u can spend less on the train. What is the best way to get in to and out of New York City on a Friday night?
-You wouldn't happen to have a Helicopter %26amp; be near a Heli-pad, by any chance, would you ??! :)
The best transit site is http://www.hopstop.com

That's gonna be a tall order though. It could take you all night to get home.

The trip there will take about 3:20. The schedule I set for you includes enough time to grab a quick dinner in the city. If you'd like, you can get out at Canal Street, walk to Mott Street and go to the other end of the street. At either 15 or 17 Mott you'll see Wo Hop. Make sure you go to the downstairs one, as the one at street level is terrible. They are unrelated, inspite of being in the same building and having the same name.

The return directions won't get you home until the next morning around 9:30 AM. Perhaps later, since there's a good chance you'll miss at least one connection. You'll be bright eyed and bushy tailed after nearly 9 hour on buses, subways and trains.

Or you could go to Europe tonight. It would take less time.

Personally, I wouldn't take this route in the middle of the night, but hey, it's up to you. I hope you REALLY like that band.
Try to get over to Journal Square down in Jersey City or to Hoboken and take the path into town and back after the concert. Or take the bus to port authority from woodcliff and then try the path to get home. (the bus doesn't run all nght) best thing is to figure on sleeping somewhere in the city and get home in the morning (if you're old enough and your parents won't freak out)

check the bus schedule at jersy transit's site is http://www.njtransit.com and coach or as used to be called red and tan site is http://www.coachusa.com
