How to get to an indian reserve...akwasasne?

Im from montreal and would like to visit kanatakon, akwasasne the indian reserve, just drive and come back, I checked the directions on google map and it says that I have to enter the US then re-enter Canada to get there! my question is do you have to enter to US then re enter Canada? what if you dont have a passport then you cant visit kanatakon even if its part of Canada??? is there another way?How to get to an indian reserve...akwasasne?
The Akwesasne Mohawk Council themselves state on their website that things dealing with their geographic location can sometimes be a jurisdiction nightmare.

Since you asked for the Kanatakon area of Akwesasne, I suspect Google is pointing you into the USA because that is where it is located. Akwesasne makes up all of Cornwall Island, part of the US area north of St. Regis Indian Reserve, and the portion located in Quebec.

It certainly looks like if you want to get to that area, you would cross Seaway Bridge, and I think US customs is right there before the big traffic circle.

However, if you don't want to go into USA, you could just tour Cornwall Island. That is part of Akwesasne and is accessible before the bridge into USA.

But if you want to see if they have their own way of getting onto that part of the reserve WITHOUT going through the border, I'd say try calling them. The link is below.
